In April Tim and I went to Ireland to the small village on the ring of Kerry where my husband's family from both side of his grandparents come from ,the landscape is spectacular and breathtaking at times with rolling hills and mountains full of sheep grazing the luscious grass, I am talking thousands of them, I don't know how many times I stopped to take photos of them ,being  Spring they was a lot of Spring lambs running around, so cute! I wanted to take one home.
If you love sheep and collect them this is your chance email me nlcasey@charter.net

Sweet face cow

Watercolor 9x12 (c) 2012
I started this painting as a sketch, I like the feeling of the loosnest so I decided to keep it this way!
When we go to Maine the biggest thrill my dog Clancy gets is to stop and see farmer Gabe's cows, he scans the fields so we stop open the window and talk to the cows, they might look dumb but I think they are very smart ,this one had a sweet face ,I might paint it again in acrylic .

A loon by the moon

#4  of my series, acrylic on paper
9x12 (c)2012
Nita Leger Casey
Two nights ago my friends and I were sitting by a campfire on the edge of the water when the moon started to rise ,what a beautiful scene ! the loons are always swimming by, I had taken a photo of one of them just an hour before ,so i combined the scene.
30 years ago when we came to Maine I did not know what a loon was, I remember the real estate agent telling me how wonderful it was to have loons on the pond, I learned fast about them and fell in love with them, my friends and I worry about them all the time, check if they are nesting, get mad a the dam owner who sometimes does not control the water level as he should, they have lost their nest a few times with the fluctuation of the water level. They fish all day long and are able to stay under water for a longtime. I love the sound they make at night, we also know when they feel danger they will let you know with their loud cry, they do not like planes flying over,in the winter they go to the ocean, and come back every year to the same lake or pond.

Clancy as a pup

#3 Clancy as a pup,
9x12 acrylic painting on paper,(c) 2012
Nita Leger Casey
I had to make some descisions, what animal was #3,also made a list making sure I can make my challenge a reality and yes I will have 75 creatures that touched my life .
I am in Maine right now and what better place to paint Clancy on the rocks on the edge of the pond , his favorite place to be. Clancy is Irish wheatten Terrier about a year old when i took this photo, he is not a water dog and does not like to get his paws wet, that is why he likes the rocks and stands on it like a king! Clancy is a very energenic dog  that runs and jumps in the woods, no other dog can catch him.Clancy is my shaddow and follows me everywhere, If you have a wheatten you will know what I am saying, A real love bug!
This painting was fun to do this morning from my deck overlooking the pond ,Clancy by my side.
remember it will be available to anyone who wants to buy it ,11x14 mated ,certificate and greeting cards,$75.00 email me for details  nlcasey@charter.net

#2 My rooster Pierre

9x12 acrylic copyrighted 2012 Sold
Nita Leger Casey
After I created this blog last night ,I was so exited thinking about all the animals I was going to paint and couldn't go to sleep, well 6AM came and I had a hard time getting up,then I realized what I did last night and panicked a little .Yes I am going to paint 75 paintings, one thing is I am not going to give myself a time frame ,I do paint most days ,but it will be time when I have to work on something else .
I decided to paint my first rooster Pierre because I did mentioned him in my first post ,Well I raised him from a three day chick not knowing it will be a rooster, he was the cutest things with three other hens, at the time I was teaching an afternoon kids class so they had fun with the chicks ,that summer it sure was a learning experience ,for Tim and I .Tim had to build a coop that turned out real cute with lace curtains and all ! Pierre grew up to be  gorgeous ,but also came the attitude, we had a few fights, he was so over protective of the hens, this little guy would chase a big 230 pound men ruining around the yard ,a few times I told him I was going to make Coq au vin with him ,but because he was so beautiful and a model for my paintings ,he was saved and died of old age !

he was a Lakenvelders

My Rooster George #1

8x10 acrylic on paper ,(c) 2012
Nita Leger Casey
I decided to start a challenge for myself and create paintings of creatures who have touch my life in many ways .
75 paintings $75.00 each and this is #1
This was my rooster George, he came into my life one day when I went to the farmer's market in Pepperell, George had been a science project for the school but he was a big boy and the teacher decided he needed a home , I had just lost my previous rooster Pierre and my girls needed a gardian ,well they didn't think so!  the two hens I had did not give him the best welcome to the coop.
they later regretted their hostile actions, he did indeed rule the roost but also took good care of them.

Each painting will be mated  with a certificate of authanticity and a 2 greeting cards.
